Twenty-six years ago Luuk van Eijk and Jaap van Baasbank started the festival Julidans with their own selection criteria. Their criteria were: “basically anything that is not a ballet,” “Dance of the stubborn kind” or just “what we like.” Nowadays the programming is owned by the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam (by dance programmer Anita van Dolen), the production of the festival is still provided by Van Baasbank & Vos. On June 30, 2016 the 26th edition of Julidans started. The program included two world premieres. On Saturday, July 2nd the world premiere of Lisbeth Gruwez “We’re pretty fuckin ‘far from okay” took place in Bellevue Theater, a performance about fear and the physical manifestation of fear. On Thursday, July 7th, Julidans presented the world premiere of “Protagonist” of Jephthah van Dinther.
