Tomorrow (Feb. 9) Dada Masilo plays with Swan Lake in International Theater Amsterdam (link: https://ita.nl/nl/agenda/).
This young South African choreographer from Johannesburg recently won the Prince Claus Next Generation prize. With her reinterpretation of classical ballets she is “an example for younger generations” according to the jury.
Black and white; good and evil; reality and illusion, contradictions for choreographers to reinterpret the well-known Swan Lake. However, the new version of Dada Masilo differs from all other versions, not only because of the addition of African dance, comic theater and carnival, but also because of her humor and seriousness in dealing with the themes of the original ballet.
